HALLOWEEN, MORE ABOUT IT AND ITS ORIGINS

Halloween is a day celebrated on the night of October 31st.

In this celebration , children wear costumes and they go to other people's homes saying "Trick or treat!" to ask for candy and then people give them.  Halloween is popular in the United States of America and Canada.
This practice originally involved a threat(when someone says that they will do something bad if they do not get what they want)
Children today, however, usually do not play tricks if they do not get treats. Some children will still get up to mischief (pranks or things to make fun of people; like putting toilet paper in trees; writing on windows with soap or throwing eggs at people's houses) around Halloween.
People often dress up as ghosts, witches or other scary things for this celebration.

These days Halloween is not usually considered a religious holiday. It is primarily a fun day for children.

ORIGINS

Over 2.000 years ago people called the Celts lived in Ireland, the UK and parts of Northem France.
November 1st was their New Year's Day. They believed that they night before the New Year was a time when the living and the dead came together.
This was a special holiday to honor the saints and other people who died for their religion. People believed that the spirits of the dead would visit them on Halloween so they wore costumes to let spirits think that they were dead too.

Jack-o-laterns

One of the most traditional thing is the pumpkin with a candle inside it and they use it as laterns.

WHAT PEOPLE OF OTHER COUNTRIES THINK

Some people who do not live in U.S.A think that celebrate this day is not a good idea because they are against traditions of other countries and celebrate them instead of keeping their own traditions.

Some cities in Spain have protested against Halloween just because they believe it is a Satanic celebration.

In our opinion, Halloween is a great day for children to have fun and it is enriching share traditions from other cultures!
